The web site on official warnings and information,
Severe Weather Information Centre (SWIC)
<severe.worldweather.wmo.int>,
starts formal operation today (23 March 2005) after trial period of over two
years.
At the Thirteenth Session of the Commission for Basic System
at St. Petersburg, 23 February - 3 March 2005,
the Commission approved to turn the pilot project
into an operational component of the
Public Weather Services Programme of WMO and be maintained by the current
SWIC web site host Member, viz. Hong Kong, China.
